for a Technical Writer, with a minimum 8 years ship repair /
shipyard related experience and strong mechanical aptitude; at our
San Diego, CA location. Job Summary: A Technical Writer is
responsible for the technical writing and development of Process
Control Procedures (PCP’s). Accountable for ensuring the company
meets the technical requirements for reliability and quality
conformance. Essential Functions: Serves as a technical writer and
approval authority for the development of Process Control
Procedures (PCP’s). Able to translate basic information from work
specifications, and technical documentation from NSTM’s, Mil
Standards, and OEM technical manuals, for submission to the
appropriate approval authority ensuring full compliance and
documentation of all Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) supporting
final work certification. Possesses a great eye for detail, a
willingness to embrace and endorse strict processes and policies
and the ability to accurately document the completion of all tests.
Demonstrates a understanding of the in-depth requirements
associated with the performance of various types of equipment test
memorandums. Extensive knowledge in the identification of QA
requirements identified in system prints and drawings, NSTM’s,
Military Standards, and technical publications including the
ability to clearly interpret these references on the deck plates
while demonstrating sound decision making and effective
coordination resolving differing opinions in interpretation of
requirements to the satisfaction of PCE customers while ensuring
full compliance for work certification. Demonstrates responsibility
for the safe conduct of in-process and final operational
checkpoints which requires not only an understanding of the
technical aspect of the test, but also all required safety
practices, undistracted situational awareness and complete focus on
the task. Initiates Preventative and Corrective Action Reports
required for the correction of deficiencies / discrepancies related
to completion of work items. Conducts follow up evaluation to
determine the effectiveness of corrective actions. Provides
recommendation and resolution in the event corrective actions are
deemed ineffective and verifies proper completion of actions
identified. Accomplishes internal and external Quality Assurance
Audits and Surveillances. Other duties as may be assigned
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Job Requirements and
Qualifications: Education: Associate or Bachelors Degree in QA
related curriculum or equivalent (proven) experience preferred.
Experience and Knowledge: Minimum 8 years ship repair / shipyard
related experience and strong mechanical aptitude. Management may
determine an applicant qualified and/or may qualify for the
position if the applicant has the necessary knowledge and/or
certifications to meet the requirements. Mastery in the application
of ship repair technical specifications and industry requirements
supporting the repair of complex and critical systems and
equipment. Must possess extensive knowledge of NAVSEA Standard
Items, ISO 9001, and notional differences in QA system requirements
in relation to Government / Military / ABS and Commercial work
specifications. Professional acumen demonstrating effective
communication (both verbal and written) for coordination,
scheduling, and completion of inspections with; ships personnel,
contractors, subcontractors, vendors, customers, and employees.
Must be able to complete training / certification for CPR
(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and complete training and/ or
qualifications required to support assigned collateral duties
(Internal Auditor, NPBI, Surveillances, etc. Proficiency in
